Notice on the disposal of used batteries
Batteries can contain substances that are harmful to the environment and health; lithium batteries in particular should be handled with special care. The separate collection and recycling of used batteries helps to reduce the negative effects of batteries on the environment and human health.
Please try to avoid battery waste as far as possible, for example by using rechargeable batteries, and make sure that batteries or devices containing batteries are always stored properly and disposed of only in compliance with the legal obligations to prevent waste pollution. As a battery user, please also consider options for preparing batteries for reuse whenever possible.
The following notice is addressed to those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and do not resell them in the form delivered to them (end users):
1. Free return of used batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries so that proper disposal can be ensured. You can hand in used batteries at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a distributor of batteries, we are also obliged to take back used batteries, although our take-back obligation is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried in our range as new batteries. You can therefore either send used batteries of this type back to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge directly at our shipping warehouse at the address given in the legal notice.
2. Meaning of the battery symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be put in household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent by mass of mercury, more than 0.002 percent by mass of cadmium or more than 0.004 percent by mass of lead, the chemical name of the pollutant used appears below the wheeled-bin symbol – "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead and "Hg" for mercury.
- Pb = battery contains more than 0.004 percent by mass of lead
- Cd = battery contains more than 0.002 percent by mass of cadmium
- Hg = battery contains more than 0.0005 percent by mass of mercury
The symbol of the crossed-out wheeled bin means that the battery must not be put in household waste.
